๐Ÿ“š The Wise Man's Fear

by Patrick Rothfuss

Picking up the tale of Kvothe Kingkiller once again, we follow him into exile, into political intrigue, courtship, adventure, love and magic โ€ฆ and further along the path that has turned Kvothe, the mightiest magician of his age, a legend in his own time, into Kote, the unassuming pub landlord. Packed with as much magic, adventure and home-grown drama as THE NAME OF THE WIND, this is a sequel in every way the equal to its predecessor and a must-read for all fantasy fans. Readable, engaging and gripping THE WISE MANโ€™S FEAR is the biggest and the best new fantasy novel out there.

The Wise Manโ€™s Fear and to a lesser extent, The Name Of The Wind, are frustratingly brilliant. Both are part of Patrick Rothfussโ€™ Kingkiller Chronicle. A trilogy of books that follow the story of Kvothe, a famous and powerful magician that seems to have had a fall from grace and is now a humble innkeeper.

Kvothe is telling his story to a scribe; book 1 follows the first day of that storytelling, and this, book 2, follows day 2. Itโ€™s a long book, but because of it Rothfuss is able to really develop a lot of depth the to characters and storylines.

The problem is, thereโ€™s a lot of rumour online that Rothfuss will never finish the trilogy. Considering itโ€™s been over 10 years since The Wise Manโ€™s Fear was released and thereโ€™s still no sniff of book 3, Iโ€™m inclined agree.

Despite this, the existing two books are still well worth a read in their own right. Iโ€™d love to see Rothfuss finish the trilogy, but even if he doesnโ€™t, Iโ€™m still happy I read these books.

This was a fantastic book that I thoroughly enjoyed. It has an epic storyline that covers a hell of a lot. Five stars from me.

Go read it!
