Why Have Multiple Blogs?

11 Oct 2024 | ~2 minute read

A few people I follow have multiple blogs that they use for various topics, but I don't really understand why.

I see it a lot on the various blogs I follow; it generally goes something like...

Subscribe to my RSS feed for posts about [topic A] and subscribe to my newsletter for posts about [topic B]. For posts about [topic C] take a look at this blog instead.

I don't understand it. I personally prefer to have a single place where I can get all your stuff. If you're posting about something I'm not interested in, I'll just skip over it in my RSS feed. I don't have to read everything in my feed reader.

More broadly there's also the option to categorise posts, and so one could have a different RSS feed per category. WordPress does this out of the box, but let's be honest, who wants to use WordPress these days? 😂

I personally don't have a feed per category on this site, but I've not had any complaints so far, so I'm not going to bother. In fact, I've not had any complaints about the various topics I cover here, either. Quite the contrary, actually. The feedback I usually get is that people like the various waffle I produce. 🤷‍♂️

I've been sitting on this post as a draft for a few days now, and then I saw this post by Ivan in my RSS feed, where he talks about people with multiple blogs, and asks whether he should keep maintaining multiple blogs.

If it's not clear already, my answer would be no. 🙃
